Jones Beach State Park – Energy & Nature Center – Exhibit Design
Wantagh, NY
AJA Architecture & Planning worked in close collaboration with OPRHP Long Island, executive staff from PSEG Long Island, and various other valued stakeholders, to undertake the design of an innovative and engaging exhibition experience at the award-winning Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center.
Our dedicated team at AJA embarked on a mission to craft a captivating experience that seamlessly merges the themes of nature and energy through fresh, interactive, and informative displays within the exhibit halls and across the site. Our primary goal was to create an immersive, accessible, and educational journey tailored for a wide spectrum of visitors, including those participating in educational programs, attending center events, or simply exploring the center at their leisure. The exhibits were thoughtfully designed to incorporate inclusive features like an audio tour, integrated Braille lettering, and tactile elements, catering to the diverse needs of our visitors.
Within the Jones Beach Energy and Nature Center, visitors will embark on an exploration of various compelling topics. They will gain insights into Long Island’s distinct natural environment, discover the intricacies of energy supply and delivery systems, ponder our interconnectedness with nature and energy, and explore opportunities and wise choices for the future of nature and energy on Long Island, especially at Jones Beach.
Among the standout exhibits featured within our creation are the live animal Touch Tank, the Ecosystems Exhibit teeming with live creatures, an interactive shoreline wave tank, a full-scale energy-efficient house, a sensory playground highlighting size and scale with impressive whale silhouettes, and a towering full-sized wind turbine blade.
